About Nepal Pencak Silat
Nepal and Nepalese are renowned for their valor, courage and bravery through out the world. Their love for martial arts and the percentage of success in the various forms of this art, is quite extra ordinary. Pencak Silat is one of the forms of martial art, which is originated with the idea of making self defense more viable and handy for the persons pursuing this sport.
Pencak Silat or "fighting by using techniques of self defense”is an oriental martial art with roots in the culture of Malaysian people. This art is widely known in Indonesia and Malaysia. We can find dozen of aliran's (styles) in thousand of Schools of Indonesia and Malaysia.
Many of the aliran's find their origin in the observation of wild animals in their fights against other animals;"Harimau"(Tiger) and "Monyet" (Monkey) are examples.
Pencak Silat is more than just one of the many Martial arts in which four major aspects play an important and significant role:
- The Mental-Spirit Aspect:
Pencak Silat Builds and develops the personality and noble character of oneself.
- The Self Defense (Bela- Diri )Aspects:
By mastering the Pencak Silat self -Defense techniques we study techniques that can be used to protect our-self and other. Self confidence and perseverance are very important.
- The Cultural Art ( Senibudaya) Aspect:
Culture and performing the art of Pencak Silat is very important .We try to combine the duty of the Pencak Silat movements with the traditional music and costumes.
- The Sports( Olahraga) Aspects:
The physical aspects of Pencak Silat is Important. We try to have a sound mind in a sound body. For this we organize competitions. The styles and schools of Pencak Silat differ from each other with regards to those aspects that are emphasized.
Pencak Silat has developed rapidly during the 20th century and became a competitive sport under the PERSILAT rules and regulations. At present Pencak Silat is being promoted by PERSILAT in most of the countries of five Continents
